Moroccan culture is a mixture of African culture, European and Muslim culture. It is an ancient culture, but influenced by issues of our days. Women does not have many freedoms in Muslim culture, but little by little, with the influence of the West, all this is changing.
This is a culture totally different from anything we can find in Europe. Anyway, people are not very reserved and if you're a respectful and open minded, you'll soon make friends with the locals.
You can be invited to eat with them in their home. If this happens, one thing you have to do before entering a Moroccan home, is to take off your shoes. Also bring a gift, this is a typical custom in Morocco. In the city, people often bring a kind of cake or sugar as gifts, while in the villages, they often bring a living chicken as a gift. Being invited to eat at a Moroccan home is the best step you can take to know they kitchen. In Morocco they usually eat with their hands, this is normal here. If you eat with your hands, do it with the right hand because the left is the one being used in the bathroom. Unfortunately, most visitors are banned from entering mosques, a Muslim holy place, where only Muslims can enter. In other parts of the world, entering a mosque is not a problem, here it is. Apart from the mosques, most of the monuments can be visited by tourists, and the entry may be free.
Morocco is a very religious country and is considered as the least arabic between Arab countries. Many of its citizens are of Berber origin.
